Do you have something that needs fixing? Our Repair Cafe can help!

Repair cafes are springing up all over the world in response to the problmes caused by a throwaway society. They provide local communities with a way of coming together to repair broken household items, learn how to repair things and reduce the wasteful use of landfill. All of this with a friendly chat over light refreshments. What’s not to like?

Still not sure what a repair cafe is? then listen to this BBC podcast

We have been running a virtual repair cafe since November 2020 and running a face to face cafe since August 2021. We have repaired over 1,000 items, from food processors to petrol hedge trimmers, broken chairs, spade handles and even a WW2 field telephone.

254 items repaired and 399 sharpened in just one year!

The BN44 Repair Cafe takes place on the 2nd Saturday of the month, from 2-4 pm in the Bramber and Beeding Village Hall. We typically don’t run it in December and if a clash occurs with Easter it won’t happen that month. We operate on a first come first served basis so there is no need to book a slot, but simply come when its convenient for you.

We have a team of volunteer repairers who can tackle watches, clocks, clothes and other textiles, bikes, household electronic items (including PAT testing) and general items made of wood or metal, like picture frames, small furniture items, tools etc. We also have repairers who work form home and may be able to tackle other projects like simple jewellery repairs, cracked or broken ceramics and sometimes petrol based garden tools. We also offer a sharpening service for your garden tools, knives and scissors – we charge £2 per item sharpened.

The idea is that these are simple repairs that are not worth taking to a commercial shop and can be done in less than 30 minutes, or repairs of older items that aren’t worth paying to have repaired.  If in doubt whether to bring something along, you can contact us at or post on the BN44 repair café Facebook group . The repair will be free but we will charge for any replacement parts and in an ideal world you’d give us a small donation but that’s up to you.

We also run a cafe selling great tea, coffee and cakes for a small charge with a seated area were you can socialise while waiting for your repairs.
