Repair Café

Do you have something that needs fixing? We can help!
Repair cafes are springing up all over the world in response to the throwaway society. They provide local communities with a way of coming together to repair broken household items, learn how to repair things and chat over light refreshments. What is there not to like about this?
Still not sure what a repair cafe is then listen to the BBC podcast
We have been running a virtual repair cafe since November 2020 and have repaired over 50 items, from food processors to petrol hedge trimmers, broken chairs, spade handles and even an antique tray.
Now we are less vulnerable to covid we are starting to run face to face repair cafes in the way that they were intended. Once a month on a Saturday from 2:00-4:00pm we will be in Beeding and Bramber Village Hall with a team of volunteer repairers, tools, tea/coffee and cake. Come and see us, talk to us and bring along things you need to get repaired.
We will also be offering a sharpening service for your garden tools, knives and scissors. We will have a bike repair stand for adjustments and simple bike repairs. We can PAT test your electrical items, and can repair electronic items, clothes, small furniture, toys, clocks, watches.
The idea is that these are simple repairs that are not worth taking to a commercial shop that can be done in less than 30 minutes, or repairs of older items that aren’t worth paying to have repaired. The repair will be free but we will charge for any replacement parts and in an ideal world you’d give us a small donation but that’s up to you. Why not give it a try?
We’ll be in Beeding and Bramber Village Hall from 2:00-4:00pm on
Sat 12th Feb, Sat 12th March, Sat 9th April, Sat 14th May, Sat 11th June, Sat 9th July, Sat 13th August, Sat 10th Sept, Sat 8th October, Sat 12th November

If you know anybody who has repairing skills or would be interested to help us run the cafe then please put them in touch with us on this email address, [email protected] – we already have a good sized team but the more people we have the more fun it will be.
If you are not sure and just want to chat over how this will work drop us an email with your telephone number and we will call you back at your convenience.
Lastly, if you use facebook please visit BN44 Repair Café (https://www.facebook.com/groups/264605165004924) like us and share with local friends and family.
Thanks – Robin, Alex and Caroline
