Calling all Wildlife Friendly Gardeners

Steyning in Bloom have invited Greening Steyning to join them once more for their annual Open Garden’s event at the end of June. Last year, for the first time, we included five wildlife friendly gardens in their garden trail around Steyning and we have been asked to organize the same thing again this year.

The invitation comes at a time of growing interest in this alternative approach to gardening and the question of how we can all play a part in helping our wildlife survive in an uncertain future. It is a growing trend that has won the support of organisations like the National Trust and the Royal Horticultural Society, no less, and we are delighted to say ‘yes’ to this opportunity to share the idea of gardening for Nature rather than against it.

All we need now is a group of keen wildlife friendly gardeners who are enthusiastic about what they are doing, and willing to pass this onto others. Gardeners who are proud of their gardens and brave enough to share them with others.

Garden size doesn’t matter. It is amazing what you can pack into a patio! This is all about sharing ideas and encouraging others who may be thinking about ‘wildlife friendlying’ their gardens or maybe opening the eyes of those who would never dream of changing their habits.

And the important thing is that you don’t have to worry about the weeds coming up in the lawn or nibbled petals on those roses!

Steyning in Bloom’s Open Day is on the 30th June, 2024 at 12 noon to 5pm
